Simon de Deney is the Lib Dem PPC for Hackney North. He is a writer, actor and director and a third generation Hackney resident. Simon was Chair of Governors at Shacklewell School for seven years and is currently a governor at Grasmere School.
Simon became involved in community politics while working with ex-gang members to set up their own businesses. He has a particular interest in housing and education issues and was the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of Hackney in 2014.

Arts for arts' sake?

Pity the artists. The writers, sculptors, composers, musicians and actors. We believed we were struggling in our 21st century garrets, eking out an existence, surviving on our day jobs. At least we were suffering for our art. Only it turns out that we have been bitterly deluded.
