Lib Dems elect Tim Farron as new leader

Cumbrian MP, Tim Farron is the new leader of the Liberal Democrats following the result of an all-member election. Former Health Minister Norman Lamb came second with 43% against 57% for Farron.

Speaking after the result was declared on Thursday, July 16th, Mr Farron thanked all those who had voted in the election, especially the more than 15,000 new party members who have joined since the general election in May.

Reacting on Twitter, Tim said, "This is a liberal country. Our job now is to turn millions of liberals throughout the UK into Liberal Democrats"

Tim will address members for the first time as leader at a rally in north London this evening.
