Saturday 13 Jul I spent at a LibDems Motivate Training Day in Stratford. A collaborative, fun day meeting LibDems from East London we covered a number of training modules.
Tactics on campaigning, types of literature and target audiences. It was a great way to learn new skills, discuss ideas and critique past LibDem literature. We even had the the opportunity to test video presentation.
It was a very busy weekend of campaigning for Team Hackney with the London Pride march on Saturday and then Black Pride being hosted on our home turf in Haggerston Park.
While my Hackney Lib Dem colleagues were busy at those events, I took part in a democracy action day for Make Votes Matter, campaigning for reforms to the voting system which is currently anything but democratic.
This weekend with the organisation by London region Lib Dems / LDCRE (Liberal Democrat Campaign for Racial Equality, an organisation within the party that advocates for equal racial representation in politics), I have the delight and honour to attend two events I have always wanted to participate for ages: Pride and Black Pride.
A group shot before the March: with MPs Ed Davey and Jo Swinson, London mayoral candidate Siobhan Benita, MEPs Irina von Weise and Luisa Porritt, Lords Liz Barker and Brian Paddick, and more!
#TeamHackney in another envelope stuffing party last night featuring our London mayoral candidate Siobhan Benita and our very own campaigns extraordinaire (and GLA list / candidate for North East) Ben Mathis - this time we are getting our newest surveys ready for our residents... across the borough! (that's thousands of them!)
Pizza (some stuffing parties you get Myles' famous jambalaya!), drinks, gossip, banter, chin wag all (essential) part of the package! Now we just need to get them delivered (in the sunshine!) to the hands of our neighbours - let's get cracking!
Every year, ALDC (Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors, a group that is affiliated with the party that helps thousands of Liberal Democrat councillors elected across the country) hosts a getaway in Staffordshire called Kickstart, where in 3 days you get to go to lectures and network with fellow activists and councillors - essentially a mini party conference. This year, I was lucky enough to attend via Future Leaders Programme (I've been wanting to go for years!) - where young people - in particular LGBT or BAME activists and councillors are sponsored by the party to acquire skills that are essential to fulfil our political ambitions.
